End of Summer (or Summer’s Ended, Whatever U Wish 2 Call It)!

What better way to end the Summer season than this little tropical concoction that’ll make Jimmy Buffett smile. I call it Summer’s End, more than likely Webtender has a mix similar to this, but if it doesn’t, here’s the ingredients, hope you like ’em!

First, you’re gonna need two shakers:

Shaker #1:

2 oz. Rum

2 oz. Vodka

2 oz. Gin

Chopped strawberries and orange wedges inside.

Shaker #2:

2 oz. Orange Juice

2-3 oz. Cranberry Juice

One orange slice for garnishment.

Shake both shakers simultaneously and pour both into a tall glass. Enjoy!

Makes 1-2 servings.

And remember to drink responsibly as always!

Martini Infusion Mix

Something that was inspired by both the Tipsy Bartender as well as a recent gathering I attended in my old neighbourhood, my wife and I recently bought some watermelon wedges and immediately I thought about the last gathering I was invited to where one of my young friends had a vodka-infused watermelon, and let’s just say that we were flying high that night, but it was all in good fun!

But I digress…

I told my wife that I wanted to take my wedge and make an infuser…

So without further adieu, here it is!

I pretty much took one of my mini food tubs and cut up my watermelon wedge and a white peach and dumped both gin and vodka into the tub along with the diced fruits, and let it sit in the freezer for a few hours, and I later on added some OJ and Cranberry (both 100%), and pretty much used a ladle to pour the gin-vodka infused fruits with liquor and used the shaker to pour the juices into a cocktail glass.

And a top view of how the martini mix looks!

It turned out very well, it was delicious to say the least! If you’re a diabetic, be very careful, I’m just sayin’! This thing is loaded with sugar!

Enjoy, and remember to drink responsibly, and don’t drink and drive!

Detroit Vegan Soul

A recent visit to a very popular vegan restaurant that has opened and held its own in recent years, Detroit Vegan Soul (D.V. S.) with its flagship location located in Detroit’s West Village on the Lower East Side, a straight shot just minutes from downtown.

Brief backstory, I wanted to try something different. My wife and I have discussed it in the months prior to my visit there this past weekend, and a cousin of mine from Montgomery, AL who’s also vegan, has heard about this place, and long story short, our interests was peaked. Unfortunately the missus had to work that day… but the following images speak for themselves.

Okra soup w/ vegan cornbread. Quite dee-lish. I wasn’t too fond of the bread due to its texture, but the taste said otherwise, literally said otherwise!

The Soul Platter, all vegan. Collard greens, maple yams (kinda bland, but favourable), again, the knockout cornbread, black eyed peas and rice w/ scallions, and macaroni and cheese. I was still eating the okra soup along with this.

Catfish. Tofu catfish. Tastes like the real thing! Even the tartar sauce was on point! Next to the mac-n-cheese, I made it my business to finish this last! Delicious is an understatement.

And… just when you thought it didn’t get any better….

It did! Peach Cobble al-a-mode. Again, I have issues with the texture, but the taste tossed all that out the window real quick! This vegan dessert packed a punch to say the least.

I will be back again.

Cerveza Delray

A product of Brew Detroit, this Mexican-style lager is very tasty, crisp, strong, but very, very smooth. It has a Corona Light/Sol flavour.

It seems that neighborhood breweries are becoming more and more common. Now I don’t consume alcohol like I did in my younger days, but this was very delicious! It comes in a four-pack at any liquor store. I can only imagine how a boilermaker would turn out with this locally-made brew, but some other time.

I’m also imagining a nice juicy burger and big fat steak fries that this beverage would complement. One day, God willing.

It’s been awhile since I’ve done a review on booze. Like I said, I don’t drink like I used to, but I will do reviews on occasion.
